This event is organized by the Peacemakers Finland and modeled after the Bearing Witness Retreats organized by the Zen Peacemakers International in Auschwitz, Rwanda, Bosnia and Black-Hills. The initial idea of the retreat came up during the Helsinki Street Retreat in September 2017. The retreat was designed and agreed on during several visits and internet meetings which included Finnish, Belgian and Dutch Peacemakers.
The retreat fee will cover the costs of transport, guides, breakfast and lunch, organizing costs, scholarships, etc. All volunteers and organizers will pay for their own retreat.
Scholarships will be assigned to few people who would like to participate, but cannot afford the full prize. We will adapt the scholarship award according to the cost of living in a particular country. Participants from less affluent countries will pay significantly less.
On all the retreats organized in the spirit of the Zen Peacemakers International, we offer you a chance to finance your retreat with donations. You can raise awareness towards the themes of this retreat by asking for donations from your family, friends and associates.
Your fee will finance the administrative and logistical costs of the retreat such as transportation, food, and travel expenses for one international staff member. It also contributes to scholarships for to those of diverse backgrounds or with limited means.
Your fee will pay for:
• Breakfasts and lunches during the retreat
• Transportation to the sites during the retreat
• A fee for the guest speakers
• Logistical and administrative costs
Your fee will not pay for:
• Lodging in Helsinki is not included
• Dinners. We will have some time in the evenings to grab something, but nothing structured.
• Local public transportation, we also advice people to search for lodging close to our locations.
Your fee does NOT include lodging, which you will have to organize yourself. If needed our staff will help you to arrange accommodation in Helsinki. Either in a local hotels, hostels or Airbnb. Those who live in Helsinki are encouraged to accommodate international participants.
The possible profits will be used for other projects decided by the organizers and the Spirit Holders. We will publish the financial report of the retreat after the retreat and share it with the participants.
We hope you can either transfer your fee to our bank account, or through PayPal, or discuss with the organizers about alternative means. If you wish to make a bank transfer for your fee, please make it well in advance.
